120000 years old human footprints traced in Saudi Arabia

Traces of 120000 years old of our own species, Homo Sapiens, lie scattered across a path of northern Saudi Arabia, which has now come to light. Although at a glance, the marks don’t seem so impressive, so initially a team of scientists almost ignored and moved past them in 2017. However, after further examination, it has now been revealed that the depressions were left by an array of Homo sapiens.

It has been found that the area now northern Saudi Arabia, a small group of our species, around 120000 years ago, stopped here to drink from a shallow lake that was also frequented by buffalo, camels, and elephants bigger than any species that can be seen today.

If confirmed, this discovery of human footprints would also mark the oldest trace of Homo Sapiens yet found in the Arabian Peninsula, which is at the gateway to early humans’ spread around the world.

As regarding the discovery, it is believed that the people may have hunted the large mammals, but they did not stay there for a long time. Researchers reconstructed the detailed scene in a new study that was published in Science Advances recently, which was followed by the discovery of ancient animal and human footprints in the Nefud Desert that shed new light on the routes our predecessors took as they spread out of Africa.

However, if the Arabian Peninsula is described now, it is characterized by vast and arid deserts, which at that time, would not have been hospitable to early people and animals. Now, as per research over the last decade, it has been revealed that this wasn’t the case always, as because of natural climate variation, the area might have experienced more humid conditions and much greener landscape during the period known as the last interglacial.
