The Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the world’s ‘Great Wonders’, was lit up with a message on Monday night, urging people to stay at home. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities lit up the front of the structure to convey a message of appreciation and solidarity for healthcare workers battling against the deadly COVID-19.

The message displayed at the structure read both in Arabic and English said, Stay Home. Stay Safe. Thank you to those keeping us safe.

Referring to this, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khalid al-Anani told the media that the display was a gesture to salute the healthcare workers, who are treating COVID-19 patients, as well as the security services deployed during the nation’s curfew.

Egypt declared a two-week curfew from 7 PM to 6 AM everyday,on March 24 for the country’s 100 million residents to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As per the media reports, violators will be punished under emergency laws. During this lockdown period, the Egyptian Government has locked down all the religious and tourist sites, schools, as well as universities. Besides, night-time curfew has also been imposed.

Since the outbreak of the virus, Egypt has taken measures to disinfect its ancient sites, and the said move has been commended by WHO for the proactive safety measures, as per news reports.

Meanwhile, Switzerland is lighting up its most famous mountaintop, Matterhorn, with messages of inspiration during this crisis time. The snow peak of Matterhorn lit up with messages like Stay at Home and Hope, and also projects an image of the Swiss flag and Italian flag, as Italy has witnessed the highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 till now.
