Kerala and Goa denies reports claiming ‘no tourism’ in the states till year-end

The two major tourist states in India, Goa and Kerala, have denied all reports claiming that there won’t be any tourism activities in the states until December 2020 in the wake of Coronavirus. A few days back, reports claiming that Goa and Kerala have banned all tourist activities till year-end made the headlines on social media.

It all started after Goa CM Pramod Sawant spoke on a news channel about the lockdown extension in the state and its effect on Goa tourism. The minister has stated that till April 30, they are not promoting any tourism activity in the state and have sought Prime Minister’s permission to continue the ban on airlines and railways.

He also said that they are banning road transport as of now, and will think about railways and airlines after April 30; he was also quoted as saying that they will wait for tourism activities to resume, and “it will start in the month of November-December onwards”.

Goa Tourism has denied all the reports and has made their stance clear on the subject by tweeting “Goa Tourism Strongly Refutes Reports Appearing in Certain #media”. Goa’s tourism tweet read, “Goa government is putting its best efforts to fight COVID-19 and making Goa safe and delightful for our valued guests. Goa government strongly refutes reports appearing in certain media regarding stoppage of tourism activities till October. We wish to confirm that there is no substance in these reports.”Similarly, Kerala too denied any such comment and Kerala Travel Mart (KTM), a non-profit organisation, said that the government has not issued any such official statement mentioning that the tourism activities will be banned in the state till year-end.

Baby Mathew Somatheeram, the President of the NGO, said that a certain section of the society is spreading false news and are misinterpreting the positive suggestions that were made by state Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac.

The situation is likely to be normal in the states of Kerala and Goa after the end of the second nationwide lockdown.
