Despite the nationwide lockdown, the cases of deadly Coronavirus in India are increasing on a daily basis. Considering the rising number of positive cases in the country, the Telangana government has decided to extend the period till May 29 while the district of Ghaziabad has decided to go further till May 31.

Telangana’s Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said “People want the lockdown extended. I have informed the Prime Minister about our decision.”

The decision to increase the lockdown period in the state was taken after a 7-hour cabinet meeting held on Tuesday evening. As of now, the state has six red, 18 orange and nine green zone districts. Three among these have higher rates of infection.

According to the CM, the situation is extremely bad and “worrisome” in GHMC, Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts of Telangana. He said that though the Central government has given the permission to open the shops even in the red zone areas, the state government won’t allow them. No shops will open in Hyderabad, Medchal, Suryapet and Vikarabad.

The state has 1085 confirmed cases, one of the highest in the countries, and 29 people have lost their lives because of the virus.

A report submitted by the Medical and health department read, “Among those dead, 82.21 per cent belongs to these four districts. For the past 10 days, the highest number of cases reported from these districts only. Hence, please do not give any relaxations in these four districts. Continue lockdown as it is, if need be, more strictly”.

Meanwhile, the Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey too announced the extension of lockdown in the district till May 31 and has imposed Section 144 till that period.

As per the DM’s order, spitting in public places will be a punishable offence and the person would be fined heavily for doing so. Face mask is absolutely necessary and if someone is found without it, he/she would be punished. Also, all religious places, malls, schools and other public gathering areas will remain closed. Gathering of more than five people in any public space is banned.
