Rise in COVID-19 cases forces Bihar Tourism to cancel April events

Amidst rising COVID-19 cases, Bihar Tourism has now cancelled all events for the month of April. The tourism body is also thinking about pushing back the events scheduled for the month of May. Bihar has lined up events such as the Patna Sahib Festival that is supposed to be held on April 13. The event has now been cancelled. The festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir.

Other events such as the Lacchuar Mahotsav in Lacchaur, the Kundalpur Mahotsav in Nalanda, Thawe Mahotsav in Gopalganj, and Mundeshwari Mahotsav in Bhabua, have also been cancelled. All these festivals were scheduled for this month.

Bihar currently has a total of 267000 cases of COVID-19. According to Narayan Prasad, the State Tourism Minister, “The events have been cancelled due to the growing Covid threat. No tourism festival will be held in April. The government has already issued guidelines for public functions,”

According to the State Tourism Minister, containing the spread of the virus can be difficult in this current scenario Hence a public event must be avoided. The Ministry has not made a decision regarding the events planned for the month of May.

The minister further said that Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel’s event has also been revised due to the rise in COVID cases. Patel was expected to be in attendance at the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on April 10. This event has now been postponed to May 1.
