Industries across the globe are taking a number of precautions to safeguard themselves from Coronavirus, including the travel and hospitality sectors. A number of hotels that are still operational after the outbreak have taken their clean-up routine a notch higher. In the middle of all this, the Westin Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas, has gone far beyond vacuum cleaners and disinfectants and deployed two robots to sanitise rooms and common areas in the hotel.

The hotel has become the first to deploy LightStrike Germ-Zapping Robots for cleaning purposes. The robot is already being used in around 400 hospitals in the US. In order to kill viruses, bacteria and fungi, these robots use xenon ultraviolet light pulses and, as per studies published by the manufacturers, it was established that these robots are capable of minimising environmental infection rates from 50 and 100 per cent.

Besides using robots, the hotel is also using several other hygienic practices such as getting rid of nonessential items such as magazines and decorative pillows. They are also disinfecting the television remotes.

These robots are just one way by which travel and hotel industries are trying to recover from the pandemic. There are few other things that hotels are offering to hungry travellers. One among which is the Hotel of Your Own Option. In this option, many hotels are offering hotels to individual parties looking out to practice social distancing on the shore. Guests can book the room for a week or a month wherein they’ll be provided meals, recreational activities and weekly housekeeping.

These hotels and resorts will maintain social-distancing, and will have limited staff. A concierge will also be available by phone and the kitchen staff will prepare tables with food for guests.

Seemingly, some names in the hospitality industry are adapting in the times of Coronavirus.
