Spain to shutter all prominent nightclubs after fresh wave of Coronavirus

Spain is battling a fresh wave of Coronavirus and will soon begin to put a lock on all the prominent night venues this week. For the latest COVID-19 outbreak, nightclubs in Spain are being blamed majorly, and given the recent spike, new travel warnings are also issued by the Spanish government. Apparently, the nightspots contribute immensely to the (nearly $175 billion) tourism industry, so the new move has come as a huge blow for the country.

As per official data, last week in Spain total Coronavirus cases shot up by more than 27000 for which nightclubs are being blamed largely. The country’s night spots were trying to emerge after a strict lockdown and nearly 25000 discos and clubs across the country were reopened in only June.

But, after experiencing another virus wave, the government has decided to suspend the operation again to curb the growth rate of the virus. The Spanish government tried experimenting with its seven-week agenda to restore nightlife in the country and help the hotel and restaurant industry. But the experiment instead turned into a nightmare after the Spanish Health Ministry announced that nighttime socialising is the real culprit for the recent outbreaks.

However, the night industry group of Spain is not at all happy with the decision and has decided to fight the government’s ban in court. Looking at the current surge in Spain, Netherlands has raised its travel advisory level to orange for some Spanish regions and both Madrid and the Balearic Islands are included in the list.

As per data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Spain has registered 116 new cases per 100000 people in the past two weeks. Till now, Spain has reported 343K Coronavirus positive cases and 28617 deaths.
