If you have a chance to travel somewhere and work by the beach during this pandemic, what would be your take? Yes, you can upgrade your work from home location, if remaining confined within the four walls is not your thing. This might read like a vague idea, but there is a country that is selling this unique concept to promote tourism.

Reportedly, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley recently announced that the Barbados Government is in the process of developing a 12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp—which is a special visa for remote workers, for up to a year at a time. In short, Barbados wants to help you to help fix this issue of remaining confined within the walls, by offering a change in the backdrop.

Currently, it is in the final stages of development. It will allow people to come and work from here digitally; thereby, people won’t have to remain in the countries in which they are.

Mottley stated that working remotely means one doesn’t have to physically be at the workplace or near your office, which means one can work living elsewhere or even abroad. One will only require a reliable internet connection to do so.

She stated that the Barbados Government is committed to working with you on the promotion of new concepts like the 12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp, and being able to open the borders to people travelling and making it as hospitable as ever for all of them, and also making it available for Barbadians from every walk of life to believe that for special occasions, or just for so, that they can come out and be a part of this wonderful exercise.

Experts are of the view that in a post-COVID world, companies will have as many as 74 per cent of their employees going remote; and such a change will offer employees to choose to live where it’s cheaper.
